Introduction
Aptfinder is a user-friendly accommodation booking platform designed to simplify the search and reservation process in Canada. The app offers intuitive navigation, personalized recommendations, and well-organized listings, addressing key challenges such as complex booking processes, unclear pricing, and limited payment options. Aptfinder provides a seamless experience for individuals and corporate clients, ensuring efficient and transparent bookings across a wide range of accommodation types.
Problem
The process of booking accommodations is often complex and time-consuming. Users struggle with finding options that match their preferences, navigating limited payment methods for reservations, and dealing with unclear or inconsistent pricing. These issues increase decision fatigue, reduce trust in existing platforms, and make the accommodation booking experience unnecessarily stressful.
Solution
AptFind eliminates these pain points by delivering a user-friendly platform with advanced filtering tools, tailored recommendations, and transparent pricing. The app streamlines booking with clear payment options and a simplified process, ensuring users can find accommodations that align with their needs efficiently and confidently.

Design Process
I applied the Design Thinking methodology to craft a user-centered solution. Through user interviews, I uncovered pain points like complex booking processes and unclear pricing, which informed personas and problem statements. I ideated solutions such as intuitive navigation and personalized recommendations, developed them into low- and high-fidelity designs, and refined them through usability testing.

Competitor Analysis
The competitor analysis examines Airbnb, Rentals.ca, and PadMapper to understand their strengths, weaknesses, and unique offerings. The insights gained informed Aptfinder’s strategy to address market gaps, positioning the platform as a reliable and user-centric solution in Canada’s competitive accommodation market.
Research
Understanding the diverse needs of a wide target audience was crucial to the success of Aptfinder. To gain meaningful insights, I conducted in-depth interviews with a variety of users, focusing on uncovering the unique pain points and preferences of newcomers, existing residents, and other key user groups. 15 users from the target audience was used for the research.

User Persona
Based on the insight gotten from the research, I created a user persona representing a 22-year-old university student who recently moved to Canada. She face challenges such as navigating unfamiliar rental processes, understanding local pricing, and finding affordable, convenient housing near their university. This persona emphasizes the need for an intuitive platform that streamlines search, comparison, and booking—catering to the unique needs of newcomers.

I designed a sitemap that structured features into logical categories: search and filters for refining apartment searches, map view for visualizing locations, listing details for comprehensive property information, and a user dashboard for managing favorites, applications, and messages, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience.

User Flow
I developed a user flow to map the key actions users take, from searching for apartments and applying filters to viewing details and saving favorites. I identified entry points, charted decision paths, and optimized transitions for a seamless experience.

Design System
I created a design system for the apartment finder application, defining typography, colors, buttons, forms, and icons, along with layout and spacing guidelines. This ensured consistency, streamlined the design process, and provided a cohesive user experience.

Low Fidelity Wireframes
I went further to create low-fidelity prototypes to quickly visualize the app’s layout and user interactions. Using simple wireframes, I focused on key features and user flows, enabling rapid iteration and user feedback before moving to higher-fidelity designs.

High Fidelity Wireframes
I developed high-fidelity prototypes to refine the visual design and interactions of the apartment finder application. These prototypes incorporated the finalized design system, and interactive elements, allowing for detailed user testing and feedback to ensure a polished and intuitive experience.

Next Steps
The development of Aptfinder is an ongoing project with exciting features still in progress. Moving forward, I plan to design and implement the Agent Flow, enabling property agents and owners to create, manage, and optimize their listings directly on the platform. This feature will include tools for uploading property details, pricing, availability management, and analytics to track performance, ensuring a comprehensive and user-friendly experience for agents.
Additionally, I aim to incorporate advanced functionalities like multi-language support, dynamic pricing suggestions, and enhanced communication tools to connect agents with potential clients seamlessly. These enhancements will strengthen Aptfinder as a versatile and robust platform catering to diverse user needs.
By prioritizing innovation and user-centered design, I am committed to expanding the platform’s capabilities, fostering transparency, and delivering an exceptional experience for both accommodation seekers and providers.
